Summer Ministry Opportunities 2021
This summer was an exciting summer in which God did many things. Although I was at home working through the summer, God gave me many opportunities to be an ambassador and light to the lost souls around me in my job and in my day to day walk of life. God has provided me the opportunity to work for Rent-A-Daughter, a caregiving service for older ladies in the Milwaukee suburb areas. I was able to work for 20-30 ladies collectively through the summer. The neat opportunity about the nature of caregiving is that it allows you to be a witness and share Jesus with so many more people. Working with and helping older ladies is not the most pleasant thing to do, but God gave me so much love beyond the physical for each lady. Barbara was one of the ladies I worked for during the summer. She is Jewish, but believes that every human has their own way to God, as long as it is deemed good in the eyes of the public. She was very open, and we had many spiritual conversations throughout the summer. As the summer progressed, I realized that once the summer was over, I might never see her again. This gave me urgency to really pray that she would be saved. God gave me a new love for her, love that I have never experienced before. There were many times when I could sense the Spirit and His love and peace flowing out of me to her. At many of these instances, she would say
“Wow, there is just something different about you, I never see you complain or angry. How can you have peace when the world is the way it is?” I was able to give her the gospel several times. Although she never prayed with me, I could really tell that God was working and that she was listening. My shifts with her have ended, but I am believing God that He will answer my prayers and she will be be convinced of her sin through the Spirit’s power and be saved.
God has also blessed me with the opportunity to work with an autistic Indian boy named Neil. Through this, I have been able to really connect with his Hindu family and be a witness to them. I worked with Neil several times a week throughout the summer. Neil’s family is devout Hindu. They have a small temple/shrine set up in their house, and regularly burn incense. They do not eat meat other than chicken and observe all the Hindu festivals very carefully. I have sensed the darkness several times when I walk in their home. Just as God gave me a love for the older ladies, God has given me a love for Neil and his family. I was able to bring them to our Vacation Bible School in July, which was an answer to prayer. They also take lessons through our New Song program, which is another connection point. Though the seed has been sown and the connection has been strengthened throughout the summer, the fruit has yet to be seen. God has deepened my faith and love through this opportunity, and given me boldness and confidence to pray big, impossible prayers for Neil’s family as I trust my Big, All-Powerful God.
My summer taught me that God wants to use me as a channel of His love and message so much more than I even think or expect. Although God brought me to new understanding of what His love through me to others is, I realize that He wants to deepen that love and teach me so much more about believing Him for miracles in the opportunities continuing from the summer. Mark 11:22-24 states:
And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
As believers choose to take the words of Christ and believe them to be reality, we can see our Big God work in our simple walk of life. As this begins to happen, mountains will be moved, miracles will be expected, and eternity will be altered.
