Summer Ministry 2021

When Faith is Made Sight

“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Mark 11:22-24

Answered Prayer

When I think of the summer of 2021, loads of memories come to mind. The Lord gave me an opportunity to travel with the ColaClash youth evangelistic team for eleven continuous weeks, during which we ministered in eleven churches in eight states. During the tour, my faith was greatly strengthened. Each week, I saw God answer prayer, from the weather to bringing teens out, to saving teens in the invitation. I always knew that God answered prayer. In fact, I had seen several answers to prayer before traveling with the team. Yet by the end of the summer, I was more convinced than ever that God answers prayer. We prayed about the weather for our first week, and God answered! It was supposed to rain every day that week, even during the nights of the ColaClash, but God moved the rain so that we could go recruiting and even so that we could hold the competitions without getting soaked! Beyond practical things like weather, God saved several teens this summer. One of the most significant answers to prayer in this regard came during the first week in Maine, when a teen who had been connected with the church for some time but who had never gotten saved finally understood his need and got saved! God answers prayer! Here are some of the other key answers to prayer from the summer:

  • Safety in traveling
  • Protection of the vehicles
  • Safety when a tornado came through the town we were in
  • Iranian and Muslim teens coming and getting saved
  • Teens coming and getting saved (Especially in the three weeks in Maine)

Breaking and Growing

There are many stories from the summer of answered prayer, but there is another aspect to the summer and to what God did. As believers, we say that God is in control, that He knows what we need, that His plan is best and many other similar statements. I think these statements are mere platitudes for many Christians. Frankly, it used to be that way for me as well. Before the summer even started, I asked God to make His plan for my summer clear. I needed an internship for my degree, and wanted to travel with the ColaClash to fulfill that requirement. Earlier in the year, I prayed that God would direct and supply the need I had and that He would put the summer together. I expected God to do it, and He clearly directed me to travel when the opportunity arose. Yet, I didn’t expect the summer to go the way that it did. The eleven continuous weeks of the ColaClash was exactly what I needed, as it took 9 of the eleven weeks for the work God was trying to do in my life to happen. If it hadn’t been for those eleven weeks, I don’t know think I would have gotten where God wanted me. The Lord also used those weeks to reveal some other issues and tendencies in my own life that were quite wrong and needed to be dealt with.
